Great article! That's how I started my business. I made my own foot scrub and then added all sorts of basic skin care. I use dead sea salt in mine - it's also beneficial to soak in the salt too - it's relaxing :) For any of your posters that need any ingredients I sell them on my site at www.healmysole.com. I'm glad there are others out there that enjoy making their own products and experimenting! I'm enjoying your blog - keep up the good work!

Great tips Lisa!! We use a lot of old paper towel and toilet paper rolls to make things. We get ideas from Nina and the Stars!! Kids favorite are the binoculars we made! So cute!

I haven't tried washing and reusing disposable wipes. Instead we buy cheap, white facecloths and use those for wipes. Once we move, I might add a layer a fleece to one side like a friend did for her kids.

Having just found this thread, I can see a lot of reading in my future.

Unbelievable. I am super impressed. I mean, "mortar and pestle" are barely in my vocabulary! So, what does the rest of your family think of it - do they use it too? Do they like the the taste and texture?

And it certainly answers my years of wondering why on earth there are baking soda toothpastes on the market if baking soda is, indeed, one of the best ways of cleaning teeth.

Brianne, That CLR stuff is nasty! I have never used it because I know others who have and it stinks and is not safe to use on many surfaces. It can be very damaging. Never heard anything good about it!

The coffee pot that I have now has a filter in it, and I take that out, it seems to hold the vinegar smell longer. If he notices it, run water through it first so he doesn't waste the coffee.

The vinegar smell goes away fairly quickly after it drys. Vinegar is a great fabric softener too!

Wow, who knew! So does your whole house smell of vinegar when you run it through the dishwasher? I always read that vinegar was such a great cleaning product but I never thought of all these ways to use it. I am going to get a spray bottle and use it for my shower doors! And the shower head. I was going to buy the CLR stuff that you see on TV but I know that is probably filled with chemicals! My husband hates the smell of vinegar but he will live! I use it to clean the coffee pot and if he noticed I just cleaned it, he will dump the first pot of coffee made after I cleaned it, thinking there is vinegar in it!

Brianne, I am sure I have given gifts back in the same bags, and I think that I have seen the same bags come back to me. I hope that the people receiving the gifts are too busy appreciating the gift, and not focusing on the reused gift bag...I also hope that if they do notice it, they look at is as more of a Going Green philosophy.

I usually use a lot of bags from the dollar store. And sometimes Target has some good deals all a box of wrapping paper, ribbons, bags and tags. Sometimes is the key word there!!

I remember one day when a door to door salesman came to my house, trying to sell me a floor cleaner. I told him I would have to talk to my husband first. He belittled me, hoping it would get me to buy his product! (um, yeah, I think you just lost the sale!) What he said was, "You have to ask your husband to buy a cleaner?"

What he didn't understand was how we do things in our marriage. Every time we spend money on something, my husband and I tell each other. Our budget at that time was tight enough that we knew we needed to do that. We kept track of every penny. Because we did this, we were able to pay our bills--and it was the only way we could do so.

A penny saved is truly a penny earned.
